Three types of journeys to design from
Service Description
Step into a journey that nourishes the spirit and expands the heart. Whether through service learning, cultural immersion, or wellness retreats, Ghana invites you to connect deeply with community, with tradition, and with yourself. Akwaaba, a word of welcome from the Akan people of Ghana, invites participants into a deeply restorative journey of healing, cultural reconnection, and embodied wellness. This customizable offering brings together three powerful experiences: the Akwaaba Wellness Retreat, the Sankofa Sojourn, and the Akoma Global Healing Service‑Learning Journey. They are each designed to nourish the mind, body, and spirit while honoring Ghanaian heritage, cultural humility, and community care. Akwaaba Retreat (10 Nights) The Akwaaba Retreat is a healing immersion rooted in Ghanaian cultural wisdom and holistic wellness. Over ten nights, participants engage in rejuvenating practices that support emotional release, grounding, and reconnection with self. Through guided reflection, movement, cultural exploration, and communal care, the retreat nurtures the whole person: mind, body, and spirit, while deepening understanding of cultural humility and ancestral lineage. Sankofa Sojourn (14 Days) The Sankofa Sojourn is a two‑week cultural immersion experience that invites participants to “go back and fetch what has been forgotten.” Traveling through Accra, Cape Coast, and Kumasi, participants explore historical sites, engage with local communities, and reconnect with ancestral knowledge. This journey centers healing, identity reclamation, and cultural understanding, offering space to reflect on history, belonging, and the power of returning to one’s roots. Akoma Global Healing Service‑Learning Journey (2 Weeks) “Akoma,” meaning “heart,” symbolizes patience, understanding, and connectedness. This service‑learning journey, coordinated by IAB Wellness and Consulting in partnership with the OBey Foundation and Harmony Health Therapeutics Services, begins the moment an application is submitted. Participants engage in facilitated discussions on cultural humility, bias, communal culture, and service, while contributing to community‑centered projects. The experience includes lodging, meals, cultural excursions, and guided learning that strengthens compassion, global awareness, and collective healing.
